About This Place

Located in the heart of Brooklyn, El Nuevo Cibao is a vibrant Dominican restaurant that brings the rich, comforting flavors of the Caribbean straight to New York City. Whether you're a longtime fan of Dominican cuisine or looking to explore a new culinary delight, this spot offers an authentic experience wrapped in warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere.

The menu is a treasure trove for anyone craving a genuine taste of the Dominican Republic. Start your meal with one of their refreshing salads like the Aguacata Salad, a creamy blend of avocado with fresh mixed greens, cucumber, and tomato — a light yet satisfying opener at just $7. For seafood enthusiasts, the Pulpo Salad with octopus, vibrant peppers, and olives adds an intriguing burst of flavors over crisp greens.

One cannot talk about El Nuevo Cibao without savoring their famed mofongo, a classic Dominican delicacy made from mashed plantains. With options ranging from the succulent Camarones Mofongo topped with plump shrimp ($20) to the delightfully savory Chicharron Mofongo bursting with crispy pork belly ($13), each bite is a journey into bold and hearty textures. The mofongo dishes strike a beautiful balance between comforting and indulgent, perfect for anyone seeking rich cultural flavors.

If you prefer handheld delights, their sandwich section doesn’t disappoint. From the juicy Pollo Sandwich and flavorful Pernil Sandwich both priced at $11, to the classic Queso Sandwich at only $4, every sandwich is crafted with care, delivering satisfying layers of taste and freshness.

Dining at El Nuevo Cibao offers more than just food—it’s an experience steeped in nostalgia and culture. The inviting setting, enhanced by the friendly service, sets the stage for memorable meals whether you’re celebrating special moments or craving some home-style comfort food. As one guest, Steph Moss, affectionately puts it, “Cibao has my whole heart. It doesn’t get any more authentic than this! Whenever I need some comfort food I order from Cibao. Reminds me of growing up and being in PR.”

While most customers rave about the bold, satisfying tastes—as highlighted by Jason Jusino’s praise of the catering being “perfect”—there are rare moments where the experience has room for improvement. For instance, Millie Perez shared an honest account of a birthday celebration where the mofongo felt drier than usual and salmon slightly overcooked, yet still appreciated the attentive service.

Overall, El Nuevo Cibao stands out as a beacon of authentic Dominican flavor in Brooklyn, consistently delivering dishes that sing with tradition and passion. Whether you’re indulging in their rich mofongo creations, fresh seafood salads, or hearty sandwiches, this restaurant invites you to savor every bite like it’s a cherished family recipe.

I normally pickup my order and never an issue, food is delicious however, today we sat in to celebrate my mother’s 77th Bday and to my surprise the food wasn’t as good as i expected. The mofongo was dry even w/sauce and my mom’s salmon was overcooked. The server was pleasant so my 20%tip was for her service and I did mention the salmon was dry and she said she’d let the cook know but no discount was offered, although I’m sure it’s not her call to do that I had liked if it was offered.

Delicious food. Lots of favor. Good menu as well. Just wished they had a couple extra drinks or kids meals.
